Day 4: Made to Last Forever

In The Purpose Driven Life, we are encouraged to see life from the perspective that we were made to last forever, made to live in eternity. Rick Warren says, “When you live in light of eternity, your values change…your priorities are reordered.” From his perpective, the two choices of eternity are heaven and hell. I don’t quite buy into that, but I do believe we are built for eternity, I do believe in the individual soul living on, that we are learning here in this life, and we will move up the ladder in the hereafter.

I liked pondering the question at the end of this chapter: Since I was made for eternity, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today? This question was an eye opener!

This chapter also reminded me of a book I read a while ago by Ryuho Okawa called the Laws of Eternity, in which he describes how there are 9 dimensions in the hereafter and we can look to evolve and develop up the dimensions. Not too many people are in the 9th dimension, just like Jesus and Buddha, or Buddha is alone in the final dimension. So most of us can hope to get to like dimension 4 and be pretty enlightened. He also describes sort of a prism effect, how from one light, we get like green, blue, gold, red, and that is the source of the different wisdoms and enlightenments. Anyway, it’s a cool outlook on our lives; not a bad matrix to adopt.
