Purpose Driven Life: Day Two

Day Two: You are not an accident. You were conceived in the mind of God, down to the smallest detail; nothing was left to chance–where you were born, who you were born to, the way you look, your ethnicity, the color of your hair, every detail. Nothing in your life is arbitrary.

God’s motive for creating you? So He could love you because God is love. “God made you so he could love you. This is a truth to build your life on.”

Warren quotes a Dr. Michael Denton, senior research fellow in human molecular genetics at the university of Otago in New Zealand: “the core proposition…that the cosmos is a specially designed whole with life and mankind as its fundamental goal and purpose, a whole in which all facets of reality have their meaning and explanation in this central fact.”

So there you have it. If you want you can accept this assumption or not, but I don’t see it as a “fact.” It is an assumption or at best an intuitive belief. It certainly does give meaning and purpose to life if you buy it.

Warren poses an interesting question at the end of this chapter to ponder: “What areas of our personality, background, and physical appearance am I struggling to accept?” So, if you assume that God created me with every single detail in mind, nothing left to chance, nothing arbitrary, then why do I need glasses, why this and why that–others who have been born with nore challenging issues have bigger questions to ask, why why why, and how can this fit into God’s purpose and cosmic plan…this chapter really opens a can of worms…we’ll see what day three brings.
