Chaos Theory and Fractals

Chaos and order. So, my brain is about to explode the way it does when I contemplate the age old question of who we are and what is the nature of the universe and our place in it. I wanted to explore the ideas of chaos theory today and I got more than I bargained for. I still am not 100% sure what the heck a fractal is, but, in any event, it’s awesome stuff. The irony, or paradox is that out of chaos comes order–sound familiar? Then I was watching one fellow talking about changing the way we think, and it’s apparent to me that a large segment of society, particularly those involved in computer technology, the internet, physics, that kind of stuff, are or have developed a whole new way of thinking, except that, there are great similarities to the thinking that produced the i ching so it’s not so new after all, but still mind blowing, and it begs so many other questions related to free will a-causal world or cause and effect world, patterns that repeat themsel;ves over and over again; like maybe the universe; and archetypes like the i ching, like carl jung talked about.

So, the pleasure of a blog is you can think out loud and throw stuff down in a post without much of a conclusion. But new concepts have dropped into my lap for contemplation–are the patterns we pwercieve real or imagined. Are things just happening and deterministic and we just apply meaning and causa;lity because we don’t see the whole picture?

Anyway, it’s hard to wrap your brain around it. So, maybe just some quiet sitting in silence will help.

And perhaps tai chi is a great way to explore it because you do have patterns and forms, but one of the most chaotic things in life is a real fight, and it might be amazing to watch the order come out of the chaos!
