Folding and Unfolding

The movement of tai chi is the movement of the tao, the movement of the universe. It is folding and unfolding, opening and closing, expanding and compressing. In tai chi, the movement is like the breath, in…and out…natural, relaxed, unforced. This gentle folding and unfolding, the play of yin and yang, is throughout the form. These movements not only work the external physical, but the internal physical part of us, and works to alchemize chi in the body. Remember, when I write a phrase like that, it is a metaohor for something that is true but can’t be explained too well in words. The body also acts as a pump, so when we fold and unfold, expand and compress, open and close, we are pumping chi through the body, as well as blood and vital other fluids.
