The Torso Twist

Come on baby, let’s do the twist! The upper torso should be like a picture frame, square, and always in the same plane. In other words, the hips and shoulders should always be aligned. Standing, looking forward, turn your torso just to the front left corner. The shoulders and hips should still be aligned. Same to the right. Like a swinging door. There are swinging exercises where you just swing , or twist from side to side and just let your arms go. This relaxed swinging is very important in tai chi, and very effective, which you would know if you’ve ever been slapped in the solar plexis by a free swinging hand like I have. More effective even than a hard punch. Well, I guess it depends on who is delivering the punch! So, swing away!
